CHINA LAKE SECTION RESTORATION
Hi IEEE Members:

Yesterday, we launched an email to ~ 195 IEEE members who live in the China Lake Section area.

So far we have 4 responses.

It seems like there are 2 major concentrations of members. The problem is that each group is
about 125 miles away from each other. One group is in China Lake and the other is in
Edwards Air Force Base.

I have suggested that a joint meeting could be held in Mojave which is about 1/2 way between
Edwards and China Lake.

If you would, drop a message and let me know what seems like a good idea for you to have
a joint meeting.

Looking forward to hearing from you.............. glenart_chair@ieee.org or just post a message to this thread.

Re: CHINA LAKE SECTION RESTORATION

As it turns out, some of us are in Bakersfield.  This technological wasteland is just as close to LA as to the desert; although, the desert is nicer most of the time.  Tehachapi is nice, except maybe in the dead of winter.  How about Vegas?  Have quarterly meetings on holiday weekends -- oops, sorry, hotel rates are up on weekends.

If it is any sort of consolation, tech societies in the LA area, where there are LOTS of members (of the global societies), also have trouble getting people out to meetings.  Evening traffic just sort of oozes in that area.

Most of us seem to prefer the Internet for info; so much easier than driving.

Would I go to a meeting in Mojave?   Hmmm ... how much did I pay for a tank of gas today?

There's a nice meeting hall on Norris Rd. in Oildale; I'll drive that far.

Re: CHINA LAKE SECTION RESTORATION
Other China Lake area IEEE members are encouraged to leave a note as to where they would like to have
a Section meeting.

Bakersfield, Mojave, China Lake, Edward AFB.......

Let us know...........

We also all sorts of meetings in Ventura Country if anyone wants to go that far.

The BV Section EMBS chapter always has a lively monthly lecture which is attended by 60-70 people.

Re: CHINA LAKE SECTION RESTORATION
On SAT, 17 NOV, the Los Angeles Council voted to proceed ahead with the restoration of the China Lake Section. We have received around a dozen or so emails from interested parties. We realize many members are spread out over a wide geographic area which most either in the Edwards AFB area or Ridgecrest/China Lake Area. Therefore we propose a joint teleconference/live meeting for Mojave, CA on SAT, 1 December, at 1PM. Location and teleconference number to provided later in the upcoming week via email blast.

For those who can make it to the live event, feel free to attend. For those who cannot make it to the live event, please feel free to call in. The lunch, mileage expense at 14 cents per mile, and teleconference will be at the expense of the Los Angeles Council. We plan to host one to three meetings for the China Lake Section and then allow the interested parties take over the day to day running of the China Lake Section.

PLEASE leave any commments in this BLOG if you wish to participate in this matter. We thank you for your support.

Re: CHINA LAKE SECTION RESTORATION
The Los Angeles Council held a teleconfernce this last SAT, 12/8, from 130-2PM. No one from China Lake called in.
We had one of our LAC members call in to ensure the connection was working. It was.

The Los Angeles Council is working with the Circuits and Systems Society to set up a Circuits and Systems Chapter
at China Lake. Circuits and Systems has a budget of $20,000 nationwide to add newly graduated IEEE members to
the Circuits and Systems Society. In addition, there is $500-$1,000 available from Circuits and Systems for general
purposes to start a chapter.

The Los Angeles Council will try one last time to see if there is any interest in re-starting the China Lake Section.
The teleconference will be at noon, FRI, 14 DEC. Dialin instructions are as before:

Dial-in information:

Follow these easy steps to access the call:

* Dial jConnect Conferencing at (213) 225-2188 (international
or local toll participants) or (800) 966-6915 (toll-free).
* At the prompt, enter the moderator's jConnect account number
(1-805-456-0832) followed by the # key.
* You will be placed on hold while the conference call connection is established.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, please email the LAC, leave a note on this BLOG, or attend the teleconference. As resources for 2008 are being considered, this will be the final opportunity for a China Lake Section restart.

Re: CHINA LAKE SECTION RESTORATION

California City is another option for a meeting place.  Probably the  best option is to rotate it between Edwards and China Lake.  In either case, the other location has at least a 1 hour drive to get to a meeting.

Re: CHINA LAKE SECTION RESTORATION
The LAC had a teleconference on FRI, 14 DEC, at Noon. We had 3 people on the call. We have decided to go ahead with a face to face meeting in the Tehachapi/Mojave area on 24 JAN, THU, from 7-830PM. This location is located
around 45 minutes from the largest concentrations of members in the China Lake Section area. In FEB or MAR, we
will switch to a Ridgecrest location.

Location is: 14633 Willow Springs Rd, Mojave CA 93501, Oak Creek Energy Systems.

Invitations in the form of email and hardcopy will go out in the next 2 weeks. Thanks, G. Lenart, LAC Chair.

Re: CHINA LAKE SECTION RESTORATION

Mojave sounds like a good compromise for the kickoff.  See you there Thursday.  Thanks for all your efforts, Geoffrey.
